So far in this unit on the American Revolutionary War we have looked at the people, the battles, and the causes of war, the art depictions of the war, the music, the documents, and lastly the societal ideals. Now it is time for each student to put it all together. This lesson will be the final project on the American Revolution. In this unit I am asking every student to show me what they learned, think, and feel about the Revolution. I am want each student to express their individual ideas and creativity while displaying their knowledge of the War AND relating their ideas to a current event in the world. So, this may sound cumbersome and a lot to ask, however I want students to be able to make a connection between history and modern events. Therefore, I ask all students to draw on our classroom “Morning Chats”, where we discuss current events and their relevance to our classroom lessons. Students will be asked to use music, pictures, and text (their own words) from both the Revolution and modern events. Each project should relate people, events, and society from the Revolution, to current events. This project is designed to allow students the freedom to focus on their own ideas and present a slide show/story which displays these ideas. Students will be presenting these projects to the class upon completion. Project Details:
Each student will need to create a project through using the web 2.0 tool Animoto. Animoto will be used to combine music, pictures, and thoughts (text) to explain each student’s story. There is no requirement of length, only that each student has 20 different pictures with captions. I have provided two examples below. The first example is very basic and is meant to represent Animoto as a tool and a basic understanding of what the project should look like. The second example is a story I created to show how I want students to relate current events to events of the Revolution and to add text. The second example should give a good idea to each student on what their final project should look like and how the content should be represented.
Resources:
Students will be using Animoto for this final project. We will go over in class how to create a story using Animoto. Along with this students will be asked to use their notes from our previous lessons as well as their notes from our “Morning Chats”. I am asking students to use the internet to get their music and their images.
